Well....I don't know when or if I will be able to post this week...thanks to Gustav. He really seems to be ruining things and he hasn't even arrived. Go figure he has the name of a male ;)!
I have family from all over south Louisiana driving in to stay at what is now called the Hotel DE Hillary. It is a nice feeling to know I can help, but this is going to be one crazy week!

Darius Rucker is climbing the charts with his new single, "Don't Think I don't Think About It" sitting at number 7 on the country singles chart, and he is loving it...so much he think he might stay in country music for awhile.

Darius talked about putting the Hootie and the Blowfish on hold for awhile and dabbling in the Dixie during his AOL music sessions taping: "[Hootie and the Blowfish] have four charity gigs that we do every year and will do. But we will not do a record or tour for five or six years....until I do three or four more country records."

Happy Women's Equality Day! On this day the 19th amendment was passed giving us full voting rights and a voice!


Now, we all know that men and women are different...no news flash there, but according to new studies women seem to have the upper hand.

• Brain: Certain parts of the female brain linked to language have more nerve cells than a man's giving women an advantage in reading and speech.


• Ears: A woman's hearing is more sensitive and she uses both ears when listening to a conversation, while guys tend to use only one. (Duh- on on us the other on the TV)
  
• Nose: With flatter, smaller noses, women can discern the mere wisp of a smell. (Well that explains why they never think their gas stinks)
  
• Mouth: Foods pack more of a punch for women because female saliva enlivens the taste of sweet or spicy foods.

RIP Dolly?

A rumor was going around in Sevierville, Tennessee (Dolly's hometown) that Dolly Parton had died of congestive heart failure.
Dolly issued a statement about this therefore debunking this information: "I'm fine. I did about have a heart attack when I found out I was dead. But I am feeling better than ever." HA HA...I love me some Dolly.

Is that a candle in your ear or are you just happy to see me?

I've been wanting to try this for awhile. I heard it does amazing things for your hearing, but putting a big flame in your head kind of made me hesitant. However, my friend Kate bought some and said, "We are doing it!" That is Kate below...we were excited!


I was on board knowing she would go first and if she started to scream in agony my participation in ear wax removal would end immediately. So we did the "smart" thing and opened a bottle of wine before putting a lit flame in our ear. (I kid, I kid)

I was expecting this hollow gauze tube, soaked in bees wax, to take out some pretty gruesome stuff out of my old ear canal, but there was nothing gross about it. It took about 15 minutes on each ear, and the wax didn't drip inside my ear, but I am assuming the smoke pulled the ear wax up into the hollow candle.

The end result? A pollen like substance which I can only assume was ear wax. Kind of a disappointment....I was expecting gruesome, but at least their wasn't a brain in there.

Today my ears feel good...not great...just good, but I feel like I can hear much better. I suggest you try it. You can buy them at your local health food store. Kate picked them up at Sunshine Health Foods (http://www.sunshinehf.com/ )on Southfield for $2.00 a piece...not bad.

Still in denial....

Saying goodbye...

Last night my husband, Drew and my in-laws Cathy and David (or as I call them Mil and Fil) went and said our goodbyes to an old friend- Don's Seafood and Steakhouse. It is so sad to see such a staple of the Ark La Tex go. They will close their doors after 43 years on Sunday at 4pm. Their closing is due to slow business, but you wouldn't have thought that had you seen the crowd last night. It took us 3 hours to get in, get a table, and eat. So many people love Don's...they just forgot to go, and now it's too late!

Or maybe not! We were talking with the General Manager and he said their is a "possibility" that they may relocate somewhere in Shreveport-Bossier. So keep your fingers crossed, and don't forget to support your LOCAL businesses....I would hate to see more go!

Pat Green Busted with Beer

Pat Green made the huge mistake of asking for a beer while performing a show at the Michigan International Speedway.

Ask and you shall receive. The audience started hurling beer on the stage and Pat got his beer and then another one right in between the eyes. OUCH! Knocking, from what a state police officer said, Pat unconscious, however; Pats reps said he was alert and awake the whole time. He did get immediate medical attention and needless to say the show was over. I'll bet that was the first time he received a hangover from a beer without even opening it.

Swampstock

Tim McGraw has announced the acts that will be hitting the stage at this years Swampstock. Of course Faith Hill will perform along side Dierks Bentley, Jason Aldean, Halfway to Hazard and Tim's cousin and Ark La Tex native Catherine Raney (Tim's cousin)
The concert will be September 13th in Rayville and all proceeds benefit the Neighbor's Keeper Foundation and Habitat for Humanity.

RIP

I am so downtrodden and distraught. Don's Seafood is closing. I cannot tell you how many Christmas Eve's were spent there dining with my family as a kid. So many memories and such good food....I will truly miss it. First Teddy Bears (remember that restaurant- FABULOUS) and now this!

Due to lack of customers, and the ever dwindling economy, after 43 years Don's Seafood, a highland staple, will close it's doors Sunday at 4pm.

Last Friday, a body of a 24-year-old man was found dead under a bridge in San Juan , Puerto Rico. Police are still investigating his death, but that is not the weird part.
See, his dying wish was to be specially embalmed so he could stand upright at his three day wake, or as is brother Carlos put it, "He wanted to be happy, standing."
His loving family fulfilled his wish and the man's corpse stood in the corner of his mother's living room, sporting a Yankees cap and sunglasses. All he needed was a stiff drink in his hand...I kid...I kid!

Cancer free Christina!!!!

Christina Applegate tells ABC News that she is 100% free of breast cancer.
Just one month after being diagnosed, she now says, "I'm clear. Absolutely 100 percent clear and clean. … They got everything out so I'm definitely not going to die from breast cancer."

Good for her...it's amazing with technology today...cancer doesn't have to be a death sentence. Can't wait for "Samantha Who" in September...love it!

Martina kicking it up another notch....

When Martina Mcbride was asked why female artists year after year were being snubbed from the Entertainer of the Year award she simply responded- not enough effort is put into our live shows.

So Martina is pulling an Emeril and is kicking it up another notch especially on her new "Waking up Laughing" tour

The recipe you have been waiting for...

So I talked about this on the air and I have had many e-mails asking for the recipe so I bring to you- deliciousness.

With hunting season just around the corner this is a perfect treat for football games or just whenever. Big props to my hubby Drew for making this! If you are squeamish when it comes to deer (I am slowly getting use to it) this is really good- even for you non-wild game eaters.


You will need:

• Jalapenos


• Cream Cheese


• Bacon


• Back strap (I think you could substitute flank steak if you're not a hunter)


• Dale's Seasoning


• Toothpicks (soak in water to prevent burning)


• A grill (or you could broil them in your oven)
  

What to do:

• Cut back strap in thin slices a little bigger than Melba toast and soak in Dale's


• Cut the jalapenos in half, remove the seeds...stuff with cream cheese


• Cut bacon into halves


• Layer stuffed pepper on top of back strap and wrap in bacon...secure with wet toothpick


• Grill until done (I don't grill so I don't know how long- he he)

OK so as I am watching Darryl Worley last night it dawned on me that he infact has a twin- local ledgend and Shreveport actor Kevin Rahm (who currently stars as Lee on "Desparate Housewives"). Not only do they look alike but both of them are supersweet.

Poor Ed McMahon....talk about ironic. The man who use to make a living delivering huge checks to unsuspecting people is now dealing with a bought of bankruptcy himself. It is so serious he at the point where he may lose his mansion in Beverly Hills. He faces foreclosure on his home of 18 years in 2 weeks because he defaulted on $4.8 million in mortgage loans. He says he can't work because of his neck injury. Where is his big check when he needs it?

So who other than DONALD TRUMP

came to his rescue buying his house and leasing it back to him so he'll have a place to stay. Talk about RANDOM acts of kindness. Trump said he is doing it because helping McMahon, "would be an honor." WOW! He does have a heart or is this more publicity for Trump? Bet you money Ed is one of the next contestants on the "Celebrity Apprentice"...hide and watch.
