Evacuees

So Gustav passed through the Ark La Tex and it wasn't like we expected...hardly anything really, but at least we were prepared. Or were we?

Today we had several calls from listeners unhappy with the evacuees, claiming they were ungrateful during the whole process and wanted nothing but handouts.

Do you agree?

Are they ungrateful?

Is it the news media and their coverage?

If it bleeds it leads, but is this coverage bleeding the Ark La Tex of their desire to volunteer?

Feel free to post comments below and don't forget to take the poll!

Hillary,

I just hate that the two shelters that are being featured on Fox, ABC and all the others are the two STATE-RUN shelters, not the ones operated by the Red Cross, Salvation Army, Century Tel, the churches, etc. It makes Shreveport-Bossier look bad and it's not our fault. Shreveport and Bossier did not lease those facilities - the state did. There should be investigations into that and there should be modifications if they are going to be used as shelters.

Thanks,
Marsha

I am one of those people who WAS going to volunteer @ one of the shelters, but thanks to ungreatful southerners NOT this time! I worked 4 Weeks straight during Katrina. And out of 800 people i saw every day & night only a handful of people said thank you! I was walking out the door when i heard all the complaing, Well that chaped my hide all night! So i am going to go work @ the animal shelter today! At least the dogs wag there tail & are happy to see you. I'll take a dog bite over a dirty look & RUDE remarks. I would like to know ONE thing, What would happend to N.La if the shoe were on the other foot??? hmm... Do they not remember sleeping at the SUPPER DOM?? Thank you I feel a little better now

this is not about evacuees but I get these emails every day from BossierCityShreveport_Freecycle and
the same people are emailing us everyday with their very picky hands out.

Are you the moderator... .if not you should take your issue up with
the moderator and not be the bossyness of the group. It makes you
look petty and rude.

if i want to ask for size 7 blue work slacks in great condition then
its my right...maybe your in the wrong group.

I understand that folks are in need - been there before - probably
will
again .. but it sure seems that we have quite a picky bunch - not
only
do you folks ask for things to be given to you that are quite pricey -

some of y'all are real specific - color, size, brand, etc. etc. Seems
to me that I grew up being told that beggars can't be choosers, but
seems there are a lot of beggars out there with strict guidelines,
lol.
When you write ane mail that says - IDNO sofa for kids .. then I read
that you only want a sofa-bed, and only in black or brown, it has to
be
in GREAT condition, needs to be delievered to your house out in the
middle of nowhere .. etc etc. I mean either you need a sofa to keep
your kids off the fllor - or you're looking to get your house redone
for free - I mean if you have a certain color - pattern - all that -
then go buy it people .. stop begging ..cause I mean I feel like
posting up here --- IDNO Jaguar, prefer 2005 or newer - perfect
working
cond. only - in either blue or black only - must have sunroof!
I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings, but seems a lot of people
have
gone past asking for help to the point of wanting a free ride in
life -
the idea of the website is great - but I get like 100 emails a day
and
98 are asking for something.
Can we keep it to ppl who really are in DIRE need - and chances are
if
you have internet it's not that dire ...

I have two views on this. One is: quit whinning! Be happy you're not floating around dead in the attic. and Two: The state knows when they screw it up. I wish they'd just admit it. It's all details, they should have known people would want to clean up after 2 days on a cramped bus.

I hope that the ungrateful people will just stay home next time. It's amazing to me how they just try to find some reason to complain. If they make it to the Pearly Gates of Heaven I wonder if they will complain about things then. If people will stop handing things to those type of people and show them that they have to make their own way in life then maybe they will shut their mouth and realize that things are what you make out of them. If this had been anther Katrina situation just think how long we would have to listen to these people complain. Thankyou Gustav for taking it easy on the folks that are trying to help the evacuees.
