A sad day in history. In case you didn't already know, the cassette tape is officially dead. Check out the numbers . . .
--In 1994, the sale of portable cassette players peaked at 18 MILLION . . . but by last year, that number had dropped to just 480,000.
--In 1997, 173 MILLION music cassette tapes were sold . . . but by last year that number had dropped to just 400,000 (--which accounted for only .01% of all music sales).
(--And BTW, isn't it strange that more people bought portable cassette players than cassette tapes? What's up with that?)
--In 2005, 23% of vehicles came with factory-installed cassette players . . . but by last year, only 4% of vehicles in the U.S. had them.
--And while books-on-tape made up 7% of all audio book sales in 2006, the numbers (--and demand) are plummeting . . . and some forecasters predict that within the next three years, cassette tapes could disappear completely.
Now how am I going to jam out to my Reba, Debbie Gibson, and NKOTB?!?
